Arrival in Sri Lanka and discovery of Negombo
Bandaranaike Airport To Negombo

Meet and assist by a representative of Mai Globe Travels on your arrival at the Bandaranayake International Airport. We will take you to Negombo, close to the airport and therefore ideal for resting after a long flight. The seaside city is nicknamed "Little Rome" for its many Catholic Churches. After settling in at your hotel, depending on your arrival time, you could go to Muthurajawela Swamp, south of the city and enjoy a boat trip (optional). Dinner at leisure.

Drive to the Cultural Triangle
Negombo To Dambulla

After breakfast you could wexplore the city and its colonial churches and fish market. Walk down the beach to watch the fishermen at work. You'll see lots of fish laying out to be sorted and dried.
Drive to the Cultural Triangle. On the way, enjoy the lush landscapes of Sri Lanka: rice fields, coconut plantations and mountains. Upon arrival at Dambulla visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Golden Temple with Buddhist caves perched on top of a hill. You will discover incredible murals, Buddha statues. Also enjoy the beautiful panorama of the surroundings. Going down, you have the opportunity to walk in the market at Dambulla, the largest in the country. Dinner at the hotel (included).

Visit Polonnaruwa and / or safari at Minneriya Park

After breakfast, we will take you to discover another ancient city in the Cultural Triangle. Polonnaruwa was the royal capital of Sri Lanka during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, and extends over ten km. The site can be traveled by bike (rental on site). Visit palace ruins, temples, and especially Kalu Gal Vihara, a set of 4 statues of Buddha carved in granite.
If you have a preference for nature and wildlife then you could go on a safari in Minneriya National Park (optional). This park is famous for its elephant population (close to 400 elephants). You can see other wildlife: crocodiles, buffaloes, monitor lizards, pelicans and other bird species. The park is also interesting for its landscapes, swamps, lakes and mountains. Dinner at the hotel (included).

Early in the morning, leave to explore the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Its massive "Lion Rock,” at 200 meters, high overlooks the village below. Discover, with your guide, the different parts of the site: the cave with the frescoes of demoiselles, the gardens and the ruins of Kasyapa Palace at the top. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the most visited site in Sri Lanka.
Later you will be transferred to Kandy, the last royal capital of the island. After settling into your accommodation, discover the city center on foot, starting with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth. The site, richly decorated, houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. Then stroll around the lake (about 4km) before going to discover the vegetable market not far from the lake, which is worth seeing for the diversity of products and its atmosphere. Dinner at the hotel (included).

After breakfast leave to visit the 60-hectare Peradeniya Botanical Garden on the banks of the Mahaweli River. Must sees: the go of royal palms, the cannonball trees, collection of orchids, multicolored flower beds. This garden offers a very nice walk of approximately two hours.
Next embark on a train ride to the small station of Nanu Oya. Enjoy the scenic ride through some of the most beautiful landscapes of Sri Lanka. Your driver will pick you up at the train station and take you to your hotel in Nuwara Eliya, a charming city with British influences also known as Little England. Relax in the evening at your hotel with a freshly brewed cup of tea. Dinner at leisure.

Hiking in Horton Plains

Early in the morning, your driver will take you to the entrance of Horton Plains Nature Site. This hike of 10 km on marked path takes you through highlands, forests and waterfalls. Perched on a plateau between 2100 and 2300 meters above sea level, Horton Plains site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. You will discover unique landscapes and endemic species. Arrive at World's End and Baker Falls, a rocky plateau dropping more than 800 meters.
Then visit a tea factory, an opportunity to learn more about the process of making this national beverage. With a little luck, you will meet the pickers and observe their skills! Dinner at leisure.

After Breakfast leave to visit Ella, a cute, small town in the mountains, admire the beautiful waterfalls of Ravana. We recommend that you climb Little Adam's Peak to enjoy the magnificent panorama from the summit (easy walk of 2 hours). Later leave to the south of the country where the landscapes are more arid.
Before settling in at your hotel, you have the opportunity to visit the temple of Kataragama, which is one of the main pilgrimage sites in the country. Visit the sacred multi-religious city, which contains a mosque and also Buddhist and Hindu temples. With a little luck, you can attend a ceremony. Dinner at leisure.

As today marks the last day of your vacation in paradise, we take you to Colombo (this may depend on your flight times) . Colombo is bubbling with activities. You have the opportunity to discover the city and its main attractions in a tuk-tuk: the district of the Dutch fort, the district of Pettah, with its bazaar and its mosque, the district of City Hall with its colonial buildings and its Buddhist temple. It's also an opportunity to stock up on souvenirs before heading back home, as we bid you goodbye and drop you off at the airport we wish you have a safe flight back.
