Arrival in Sri Lanka

Bandaranaike Airport To Waikkal

Upon arrival at the Bandaranaike Airport, your driver welcomes you. You are greeted by the tropical air of this magical island, and for your first destination your drive to Waikkal, to a seaside resort near the airport and therefore ideal for resting after a long flight. Dinner at your leisure.

Visit the fish market and road to the Cultural Triangle

Waikkal To Sigiriya

In the morning, discover the Negombo fish market, very famous in the whole country. Negombo includes one of the largest fishing communities of the island. Walking near the shore where they moor their catamaran and the beaches where the fish is salted and dried, Negombo is ideal for a first immersion with the local population.
You then take the road to the Cultural Triangle. You could make a stop at Kurunegala to climb to the top of the gigantic Athagala Buddha. Take the opportunity to enjoy a local crepe called "rotti"! Check in to your hotel in Sigiriya. Dinner at the hotel (included).

Lion Rock and ancient city of Polonnaruwa

Sigiriya

Early in the morning to avoid the crowds, go to climb Sigiriya's "Rock of Lion", whose massive rock overlooks the village with its 200 meters height. Your guide will make you discover the different parts of the site: the gardens, the Natural caves, including the frescoes of the Demoiselles, the ruins of the Kasyapa Palace at the top, classified at UNESCO, it is the most visited site in Sri Lanka.
After lunch (at leisure) go on an excursion to Polonnaruwa by bike. This ancient city was the royal capital of Sri Lanka during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, and extends over ten km2. Visit the ruins of palaces, temples, but especially Kalu Gal Vihara, a set of 4 statues of Buddha carved in granite. Dinner at the hotel (included).

Golden Temple and road to the mountains

Your last stop in the Cultural Triangle is Dambulla, where you will visit the Dambulla Golden Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its Buddhist caves perched on top of a hill, where you can see murals. statues of Buddha and dagobas, all scattered in 5 caves. From the mountain top you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the surroundings.
You can then take the road to the Knuckle Mountains to reach your ecolodge, located in an exceptional setting. Enjoy the quiet surrounding and a moment at the pool to relax. Dinner at your leisure.

Excursions to the tea plantations

Madulkelle

Have breakfast with breathtaking views of the Knuckle Mountains. Then go for a walk through the plantations to meet the tea pickers. Many activities are offered by the hotel: trekking, fishing, swimming in fresh water, visit of a tea factory, traditional course of cuisine. In the afternoon, go to meet the "Children's Club" association to discover the extraordinary work that volunteers do for the community. Dinner at your leisure.

Madulkelle To Kandy

Today take the road to Kandy, the last royal capital of the island, which preserves an aristocratic atmosphere. After settling into your hotel, you will discover the city center on foot, starting with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth, a sacred Buddhist temple. The site, which is richly decorated, houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. You could continue by a walk around the lake (about 4km) and end with the market. Next, visit the 60-hectare Peradeniya Botanical Garden on the banks of the Mahaweli River. Do not miss the royal palm alley, the cannonball trees, the orchid collection, the multicolored flower beds. This garden offers a very nice walk of about 2 hours. At the end of the day, attend a show of traditional dances. Dinner at your leisure.

Today take the road south to the more arid area of Udawalawe. After settling at your hotel, enjoy the quiet surrounding to relax.
